An Executive Committee Meeting of the African Security Sector Network/ASSN/ took place in Akosombo Continental Hotel, the Volta Lake, Ghana between the 2oth and 22nd of March 2010.As executive committee member of the ASSN Medhane Tadesse attended the meeting facilitated by the African Security Dialogue and Research/ASDR/. The institutional transformation process of the ASSN as well as existing and future challenges and opportunities of the Network dominated discussions of the meeting. The meeting also reviewed specific SSR projects that the ASSN is involved, such as the DRC-Congo. It also deliberated on the state of regional networks and parliamentary workshops, mainly in West Africa.

The ASSN emerged in 2003 from a process of interaction and ensuing activities from a group of African scholars and practitioners with an interest in security sector reform. Its leadership and strategy was formalized in 2005 in Cotonu, Benin and the network set out to support the advancement of principles of democratic governance of the security sector in Africa.
