Chairing a Meeting on Peace and Security in the Horn
Chaired a session in Nairobi (April 14-16, 2010) on ‘Ties that Bind? Yemen and Security in the Horn of Africa’ in an Experts Roundtable on Regional Security in the Post-Cold War Horn of Africa organized by the Institute for Security Studies/ISS/.
- Reviewing an AU policy on SSR
An African Union and United Nations experts meeting on Security Sector Reform/SSR/ was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia between 17 to 19 May 2010. The aim of the meeting was to review the draft African Union SSR Policy document. It was attended by AU and UN SSR SSR Units, African experts on SSR and leading players from the African Security Sector Network/ASSN/. Other participants include representatives of Regional Economic Communities/RECs/ and global partners. Medhane Tadesse attended the meeting, which is a follow up to the December 2009 validation workshop, and is part and parcel of the broader debate on an SSR policy framework for the African Union.
- Facilitating Recruitment process for fellows
Facilitated the recruitment process of the 2010 fellowship of African Women administered by the newly established African Leadership Center/ALC/ June 7-10, 2010. Medhane Tadesse is a member of the Board of Trustee of the ALC and has been involved in the recruitment and mentoring of the Fellows in the last couple of years. The official launching of the ALC will take place in Nairobi on the 24th of June 2010.
